Conspiracism: The Neverending Story
The recent Rosie O'Donnell controversy in which she repeated various 9/11 conspiracy myths has compelled me back to my blog. My original conception was that I would bring together links to various official reports, scientific papers, websites, pertinent articles, pictures, and videos so that the general public might have a portal to information that dispels the myths and errors perpetuated by the 9/11 troofers. And then, I would simply maintain the links, adding or deleting as the case might be, with the occasional blog post of my own.
In retrospect, my grandiose concept of being a "portal" is naive. A deluge of conspiracy sites flooded the Internet, gathering ill-gotten momentum from partisan politics and the war in Iraq, and sweeping sites such as mine into obscurity. Still, I earnestly believe that my site has a place in the greater scheme of things. But, it is missing an important aspect. Namely, I must continue to blog and attract attention to the site.
Why? Because conspiracies are neverending stories. As information is presented to debunk the mistakes and myths, the conspiracy story mutates. It grows larger to overcome obstacles or absorb them into an even wider conspiracy. Then, people who hear only the conspiracy story start to repeat its elements until the conspiracy theory starts to self-validate. And, by that I mean that the repetition of myths and mistakes of the conspiracy story across the Internet and by word of mouth reaches a critical mass. Then, when trying to verify the assertions, people see the same "data" on many websites, hear other people state the same "facts" in conversations. Suddenly, by virtue of repetition, the conspiracy story becomes truth rather than speculation.
And, lest you dismiss this phenomenon, the Niger yellowcake debacle that led to the infamous 16 Words in the State of the Union was "validated" by various Western intelligence sources confirming the report with one another. As each had gotten the report separately, they confirmed to one another the details. So, it can happen.
In the face of the Neverending Conspiracy Story, I see my blog and the many other websites dedicated to presenting factual information on 9/11 as important contributions to our country. Yes, I know that still sounds grandiose. Forgive my impertinence, if you would. Better yet, ignore me and focus on the facts that I hope to be able to direct to your attention through my blog.

"9/11 truthism" or "inside jobism" if you will, is a byproduct of disafection with the Bush legacy of cronyism and corruption, and the willful abuse of his political "mandate" after 9/11. The " inside job movement" really didn't really get it's feet under "itself' until momentum for the Iraq war had finally gotten under way.
Though "LIHOP/MIHOP's" purport to be "inquirers" into the "Bushco world', they're really a mirror image of the Bush Administration's worst parts.
Bush said, you're for us or for the terrorists; "inside jobbers" say any science, research, or expertise that disagrees with their forgone conclusions is under the sway or direct control of the mighty "Dr. Evil," G.W. Bush.
"CT's" have produced the unfortunate consequence of defacto insistance that G.W. Bush and company, rather than being a bunch of right wing nincompoops are omnipotence and perfection personified.
After all these years it couldn't be more obvious how fantastically stupid that idea is.
As some have suggested, only half jokeingly, it sometimes seems as though "truthers" are actually publicists for the idea of Bush being a "great white evil deity."
It's no accident that the "inside jobber" presence has metastasized on the internet. It's the only medium that they can swim in and appear more significant than they truly are. In person, "truthers" can manage to bring together a hundred, or a thousand adherents here, and another bunch there. They have Rosie O'Donnell and Charlie Sheen and Alex Jones. Woo-hoo!
But on-line they bounce the same old candards, discredited claims, doctored evidence, non-peer reviewed (except amongst themselves) unscientific jibberish, and outright lies back and forth among each other incessantly and repeatedly--the hi tech big lie--day after day, year after year, until they become irresistable to 11 year olds who just discovered Google, and ancient lefties and righties who just got their first personal computers.
They ignore the debunking and discrediting of their "evidence" by thousands of reputable scientists and the repeated dismantling of their endlessly constructed straw man "arguments" by real detectives and forensic investigators and the simple pointing out of the error of their ways by enormous numbers of reputable logicians; and the "troofers" simply repeat the same claims over and over again day after day year after year. As though they had just begun their "work" last Tuesday.
I suppose that's how one sells gold plated feces to people looking for home furnishings.
For people looking to blame the Government for their own problems, "inside jobbers" are a godsend. And so they'll always have some new recruits.
On-line can claim to each other that they are a growing movement. Well, yes, I suppose that's possible; every year thousands of young people with no memory of 9/11 reach the age of credulity, and many thousands of old people become senile.
Thanks for the good work and honorable effort. It can't and won't be easy for you. As I'm sure you know, Mark Twain once said that a lie travels half way around the world before the truth gets out of bed and puts on it's pants.
The best of luck to you, you'll need it.
Because while some "troofers" are nothing more than "useful idiots", there are also a goodly number who are itinerant whackos that decided first what the story was, then put together their "evidence", and then set up little cottage industries to sell, sell, sell. Intellectually, some "inside jobbers" are as deceitful as leaders of any other "cult", including Islamic extremists. They certainly won't take it kindly you're knocking the collection plate out of their hands.

Here is the facts. You are all myths to this "story". That's why you use a vocabulary beyond yourselves to seem rational and intelligent. And also for sake of an argument. It's all "smoke and mirrors".
